Birsel has considerable experience in privatizations carried out mainly by way of block sale and public offerings.  Birsel’s privatization practice includes advising clients on tender and acquisition documents, financing of the acquisitions, relations with the Privatisation Administration and other related governmental agencies, regulatory matters, and conducting due diligence exercises on the entity to be privatised. Birsel’ clientele in privatizations generally comprise foreign investors, however, it has also advised the government in the preparation of a report on the privatization of state economic enterprises. Highlights of Birsel’s privatisation work include advising bidders or potential bidders in the privatizations of state economic enterprises operating in the telecommunications, steel, oil and lottery industries as well as the privatization of the electricity distribution network in Turkey. Birsel also served as local legal adviser to the governmental bodies of Great Britain in the overseas sale of their shareholdings in energy, telecommunications, and transportation companies.
